What This Audio Checker Can Do
This free online microphone test tool lets you instantly see whether your audio input is working, which device your browser is using, and how clean your signal is. The live waveform reacts to every sound in real time, so you can spot problems straight away — background hiss, low signal, or complete silence. You can also switch between connected inputs using the dropdown, making it easy to compare a headset against a webcam or an external USB recorder side by side.
How to Run an Online Sound Check
- •Select your input device from the dropdown menu at the top of the test card.
- •Click Start Test — your browser will ask for permission to access the input. Allow it.
- •Speak or make a sound and watch the green waveform. It should move with your voice.
- •If the waveform stays flat, try selecting a different device from the dropdown.
- •Click Stop when you are done. Nothing is saved or uploaded.
Why Isn't My Audio Input Working?
- •Browser permission was denied — click the lock icon in your address bar and enable audio access, then refresh the page.
- •Wrong input device selected — open the dropdown and switch to a different source.
- •The input is muted in your operating system — check your sound settings and make sure it is not muted.
- •Gain set too low — your system audio settings may have the input volume at zero. Raise it to 50–80%.
- •Bluetooth or USB device not fully connected — disconnect, reconnect, and wait a few seconds before trying again.
- •Another app has exclusive access — close video call software, recording apps, or other browser tabs using the device.
